In December 2023, the second season of Dickie, De Hofleveranciers’ darkly humorous animated series, was released. Across 52 short episodes of about 2 minutes each, we follow the chaotic adventures of Dickie—the universal loser with a remarkable moustache.
Whether Dickie is a farmer, a clown, an artist, or a superhero, things inevitably go wrong. His naivety, vanity, awkwardness and lack of social understanding make him both ridiculous and relatable. Despite his countless failures, the audience can’t help but feel sympathy. After all, there’s a bit of Dickie in all of us.
Based on the comic character created by Pieter De Poortere, Dickie has evolved over 20 years from a Flemish farmer into a universal figure, instantly recognisable by his round head, his big moustache and his constant misfortune. Each episode ends badly for him—but in the next one, he starts fresh, blissfully unaware.
No dialogue is used—Dickie communicates through growls, leaving all the storytelling to sound design and music. The original soundtrack by Flip Kowlier and sound effects by foley artist Bram Braem are essential to the tone and punchlines.
Produced by De Hofleveranciers and animated by Fabrique Fantastique, the series features voice work by Jos Dom (Dickie), Maaike Cafmeyer (female roles), and Peter Van Gucht (male roles).
